House, now forming 2 occupied dwellings. House of mid C17 with raised roofline
and rebuilt early to mid C18. South front of 2 storeys with 3-room plan.
Reads: cottage has C17 masonry and double chamfered mullioned windows of 6
lights to each floor (each lacking some mullions). All are double chamfered
mullioned windows to Swineshead. 7-light window with 6-light window over.
Doorway with semi-circular arched head has projecting moulded hood, imposts,
consoles, monolithic jambs. Over is sashed window with plain stone surround and
projecting sill. 5-light window with 4-light window over. Band, moulded gutter
brackets with convex moulded stone gutter. 2 gable stacks and one other.
Right hand return wall has arch light with sunken spandrels. 3-light flat faced
mullioned window with 2-light over with 3-light double chamfered mullioned
window to attic. 1st floor has taking-in door. Attached is single storey added
cell with 6-light chamfered mullioned window. Rear of main range has tall stair
window formerly of 6 lights of same character as that to Higher Longfield Farm
(Rough Side Lane q.v.). Rear of 1st cell has double chamfered mullioned windows
of 5 lights with 4-light over. Attic window added when roof was raised of 4
lights.
