Like most churches, St Michael's has some history dating from Saxon times but, again, like most churches, it has been extensively rebuilt and altered over the centuries.
The Normans established it broadly along the lines we see today, with a basic cruciform design, although it wasn't until the Tudors came along that the current layout was finally established with the North and South aisles.
