The Lookout
at SY 36409305

Lookout. Circa 1804, for the Excise Service, altered. Cement-rendered stone;
Welsh slate roof. Octagonal on plan, with board door on north side in
segmental-arched surround and windows on the 3 seaward sides. Built during the
Napoleonic Wars as part of the coastal warning system (against invasion) but used
principally as a base for Excisemen working against smuggling.
