Hotel, formerly Inn and some time private house, c C17 and with Cl9 and C20
refashioning. Stone walls, plastered. Thatch roof, hipped at east end and
gabled at west end with a stone coping. 3 stacks at east end eaves (rendered),
at centre: ridge, at west gable end. Plan: main range-along street with
2 return wings to south at each end. North elevation: 2 storeys. 6 windows,
wooden casements with renewed cross-transoms in the west 3 bays and 3-lighters
with glazing bars in east 3 bays. Front wall projects forward by 4 feet in
the west 3 bays. Front door to street, at centre: wooden door with 6 panels,
four glazed and a fluted pilaster doorcase. Plastic thatch canopy over.
Return wings: west with coursed rubble stone wall, curved and washed. Thatch
roof, hipped at south end, with 2 brick stacks on ridge. 2 small sliding-
sash windows. 1 cellar-door, 2-leaf with heavy wood lintel over. East wing
of 2 storeys, 5 windows, C19 sashes and 3 rendered stacks at eaves. Projecting
stack to the one nearest street. C20 door at centre.

Interior: ceiling beams in present hall, hollow-chamfered and roll-moulded
originally making large compartments. Extensive flagstone floors in western
