Parish church. Chancel walls and nave including buttresses C13
with east wall of chancel and west bay of nave rebuilt possibly
in C17 re-using medieval material. West tower demolished after
a great storm in 1741. Restoration in 1850 at expense of W.H.
Cheere; tower rebuilt 1871 and spire added in 1877 and
demolished in 1963. Plain tile roofs with stone copings to
parapets with cross finials. Walls of field stones with
limestone dressings. North elevation. Tower of three stages
with main entrance through two-centred arch with shafted jambs
and bell capitals, (similar to chancel arch), embattled parapet,
two-light belfry window and one lancet-light. Three nave
windows of two-trefoiled-lights with quatrefoil in two-centred
arches and two chancel windows with single trefoiled-light.
Gabled south porch and organ loft project from south elevation.
Interior. Font C13; for monuments see R.C.H.M. These include
wall monument to Charles Madryll Cheere, 1825 neo-Greek by
Gaffin, London, floor tiles c.1850 with inscription on risers to
chancel steps; chancel screen c.1920.
