Old Court Hotel
II*
Former manor house, now hotel. C16 with C17 additions, altered C20.
Coursed and square sandstone rubble, ashlar dressings, turnerized
stone slated roof. Irregular E-shaped plan with broadly central
forward projecting porch facing north. C20 additions to rear at south-
west, two external stacks to rear, west one now enclosed by C20 extension,
further lateral stack to return of west cross-wing. North front: two
storeys and attics, mainly stone mullioned windows with square-headed
hoodmoulds; one range of 5-light stone mullioned windows to gable end
of west cross-wing, tall 3-light mullioned and transomed window lights
stair to west of two-storey gabled porch with heavy ledged door. Five-
light window to east of porch and further range of altered similar
mullioned windows to east gable end of cross-wing. Interior: Hall:
of two storeys and three bays, panelled cross-beamed ceiling with moulded
members, timber-framed internal partitions; close-studding with two
blocked doorways with 4-centred heads flanking inserted doorway to
screen at west end, large open fireplace. The house is a fine example
of a stone built manor house of this period, (it may be a cladding of
a timber-framed house). (RCHM p 254).
