Stables, wall, courtyard and attached kennels. c.1810. Stables
of ashlar with hipped slate roofs projecting over the eaves.
Quadrangle plan. 2 storeys, 7 bays. Set on a plinth with first
floor and raised eaves bands. The central, slightly projecting,
3 bays are topped with a pediment. Central arched doorway with
keystone, lacking doorway and glazing to fanlight. Flanked by
single blind recessed panels and 2 glazing bar sashes lacking
glazing. All have flush splayed lintels and keystones. Above are
7 small glazing bar sashes, lacking glazing, with flush splayed
lintels and keystones. In the pediment is a clock face.
Projecting from the left and right are single storey wings, both
set on a plinth and with raised eaves band. The 7 bay left/west
wing has a large entrance with rendered flat arch with keystone,
and ashlar quoins. The inner north wall has a doorway with
wooden door, damaged fanlight and keystone. The inner west wall
has a single glazing bar sash with a doorway with wooden door to
the left. Both have flush splayed lintels and keystones. Left
of the arch 3 glazing bar sashes, lacking glazing, alternate with
2 doorways with damaged stable doors and glazing bar overlights.
All have flush splayed lintels and keystones. The 5 bay
east/right wing, with single red brick stack to the rear left,
has a similar flat arch and inner openings to the west wing.
Right of the arch are 3 large carriage archways, each with
damaged double wooden arched door and keystone. The courtyard is
paved and the quadrangle is completed by a coped ashlar wall with
central double wooden gate. Interior contains some wood and iron
stalls. Projecting from the rear, dressed coursed rubble, west
wall, is a small damaged red brick and pantile lean-to with a
doorway with wooden door. Projecting from this is a dressed
coursed rubble wall with triangular shaped ashlar coping and iron
railings. This extends 3 metres, turns at a right angle, extends
a further 20 metres and then turns back to meet the stable rear
wall. The wall is broken by 3 entrances and the interior is part
divided into 6 by similar walls.
