House with shop with accommodation above. 1847 by Sydney Smirke.
Red brick with painted stucco dressings. Slate roof with stone
coping dividing properties. 2 ridge stacks and 2 projecting
gable stacks to rear. 2 and a half storeys, 4 bay front with
first floor sill band and richly moulded second floor band.
Doorway to No.75 to right with broad pilastered doorcase, moulded
cornice and three-quarter glazed door. Plain sash to left with
moulded architrave. Shop front beyond with doorway on curved
corner with pilastered doorcase, entablature, moulded cornice,
overlight and double partially glazed doors. To right a fixed
shop window with flanking pilasters, entablature and moulded
cornice. 4 glazing bar sashes above, all with 6 large panes and
moulded architraves. 4 small glazing bar sashes above with
cambered heads. North front with fixed shop window to left of
doorway on curved corner; with flanking pilasters, entablature
and moulded cornice. Window beyond with fixed glazing and
architrave. Fire insurance plaque above doorway. 2 windows
above to left, both with 6 panes and moulded architrave. 2 small
glazing bar sashes with cambered heads, above. Built for Bethlem
Hospital in the same style as tenements built by the same
architect in Southwark for the same patrons.
