Terrace of 10 houses. 1847, by Sydney Smirke. Slate roof with
stone coped gables and stone coping defining roof of each house.
6 ridge stacks and 2 gable stacks, that to east, projecting. 2
and a half storeys with basement. 18 bay south front. First
floor sill band and richly moulded second floor band. Steps lead
up to doorway to right with moulded architrave, reveal and
panelled door. Glazing bar sash with large panes and moulded
architrave to left. 8 doorways beyond, all with moulded
architraves, reveals and panelled doors, alternate with 8
projecting, rectangular bay windows, all with small basement
openings and tripartite glazing bar sashes with large panes
above, with flanking pilasters, broad entablatures and moulded
cornices above. 18 glazing bar sashes with large panes and
moulded architraves above. 18 small glazing bar sashes with
cambered heads above. East side of north range with slightly set
back, curved south-east corner and projecting stack. Small
basement opening in curved corner. Single basement glazing bar
sash with segmental head, beyond stack. Curved corner with
single glazing bar sash above, with moulded architrave and large
panes. Insurance plaque above. Similar window to right. Above
are 2 small glazing bar sashes with cambered heads, and a C20
casement in between, to the right of the stack. Built for the
Bethlem Hospital in the style of similar tenements belonging to
the same body in Southwark.
