5/363 Boundary and garden walls,
gates, piers and gazebo at
Wick Street House
GV II
Walls to road and enclosing garden to east and south of house, piers, gates and
gazebo. Mostly C17, but some C20 work, probably by Detmar Blow. Limestone,
some ashlar, some squared, some dry stone. To road, a pair of square piers with
domed caps and ball finials, opposite entrance door and with chinoiserie gates
to strap hinges, flanked by walls with brick inner lining. To right, wall
returns to house in squared stone to weathered coping, a single gate and gate
pier at junction with house. To left the wall runs back, swept down to pair of
gates, then to gazebo to semi-circular plan on stone base, to semi-dome with
stone slate carried on wood structure at intermediate level; wall then returns.
to house and pair of gates in pair of large square piers. A fine complement to
the house (q.v.), and containing the sundial (q.v.).
