Farmhouse).
GV II
House. C17-early C18, altered early C19, with early C19 wing projecting to
front. Coursed rubble stone, the left bay of rear wing mostly limestone,
remainder ironstone. Main rear wing has steeply pitched roof of C20 interlocking
tiles, with hip to right and coped gable to left. Slate roof to front wing.
Brick chimneys. 2 storeys. L-plan, the original rear wing with central chimney
and rear lobby entry. This wing is of 2 bays and has C19 fenestration with
barred wooden casements and shaped Uppingham stone lintels. Right bay has
3-light casements; centre has narrower 3-light window over 6-panelled door. C19
wing projecting to front of left bay is of 3 bays with irregular wooden casements
and horizontal sliding sash to ground floor centre. C20 board door between left
bays; 6-panelled door with rectangular fanlight to right. Interior: rear wing
has altered fireplaces and boxed spine beams; front wing has stop-chamfered spine
beam in far bay.
Said to have been built 1707 for Peter Browne (unpublished guide to village by
Mrs Marian Neenan).
