Pair of semi-detached houses. C1883 by George Sherrin for the workforce at Samuel Courtauld's
textile mill. Queen Anne style. Red brick in Flemish bond and decorative moulded bricks.
Hipped tiled roof with central tall ribbed stack. Two storeys; 2 windows. Central large projecting
curved gable with moulded brick decoration, 16-pane sashes to first floor and 20-pane sashes to
the ground floor, all with moulded brick voussoirs with keystones and shutters. On either side
are wide doorcases with flat weather hoods on brackets and half-glazed doors. Stringcourse of
moulded bricks in splayed leaf design. Plinth. Attached to the side of the building is a low brick
wall and original iron gates. The cottages were illustrated in 'The British Architect', 20 March
1885.
