College of further education. Main block of 1877 with later
extensions and incorporating an early C19 house. A separate
block to the rear of the main Park Lane building faces Park
Green. Dated 1900. The 1900 block now incorporates an earlier
building, probably originally a dwelling, but substantially
altered on conversion. Uncoursed freestone with Welsh slate
roofs, the earlier house of brick with stone dressings.
EXTERIOR: main building to Park Lane is 2 storeys, 7-window
range with central entrance bay advanced with steep dormer
gable over. Projecting entrance feature with inner round
archway carried on polished granite shafts and steep outer
gable carried on corbels. Paired lancets in steep relieving
arch to first floor above. Flanking windows separated by
gableted buttresses at ground-floor level are of 8-panes with
wood transoms. Moulded stone panels over. Stilted arched
windows to first floor. Corbel table, coped gables each side.
Single-storey extension set back to the right, dated 1913. 3
windows each side of stilted arched entrance door in advanced
gable.
Block to rear 2-storeyed; wide canted gable to Park Green with
paired lancet windows in each face beneath dormer gables.
Plate traceried windows to first floor. Entrance in east
elevation: doorway with overlight flanked by 2-pane windows,
inscribed over entrance 'Technical and Science School 1900'.
Rear extension of this range is top-lit for studios.
Earlier house incorporated in 1900 block: 2- and 3-storeyed,
3-window range with entrance in lower left-hand bay. Doorway
in moulded stone architrave with 12-pane sash window above.
Taller right-hand block has full-height canted bay with
tripartite sash window to ground floor and 16-pane sash
windows on each floor above. Moulded cornice with parapet
incorporating raised central panel. Higher parallel range to
rear, symmetrically arranged with 3 gables.
