Town house in row. Early-mid C18. Flemish bond brick (painted);
ashlar dressings; random rubble limestone to rear wing; brick
chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with attic; 2-storey rear
wing. Front: 4-window sash fenestration all 18-pane with thick
glazing bars within keyed and beaded architraves. Off-centre
doorway with keyed and beaded architrave and broken pediment with
urn supported on scrolled brackets. Multi-panelled fielded door
with 4-pane light over and approached up stone steps. Rubble stone
plinth; alternating chamfered quoins; plain banding at upper
floor level and moulded eaves cornice below open parapet
balustraded in 3 sections. Three gabled attic dormers. Gable end
brick chimneys. Rear: left of wing tall round-arched staircase
sash with glazing bars, lower part now blocked. Wing in random
rubble has scattered casements with timber lintels.
Interior has one very fine room: painted fielded panelling with
fireplace having Doric entablature above and flanking fluted
pilasters with round-arched niches beyond. Continuous dentil
cornice. Hall also panelled and has altered staircase retaining
barleysugar balusters. Former small room to right of doorway now
dismantled. Contemporary with No 56 (Raglan House) Long Street
(q.v.).
