Two shops in row with house to rear and over. Late C17; refronted
c1840; C20 shop fronts. No 56: incised stucco, replacement tile
roof. No 60: red Flemish bond brick, painted stone dressings,
replacement tile roof; random rubble limestone to rear. Two-
storey with single-storey outshut to rear of No 60. Attached
building to rear of No 56 is not of special interest. Front: 2-
window fenestration to each, 12-pane sashes to No 56, six-pane mid
C19 sashes with stone voussoir lintels to No 60. C20 shop front to
each. At centre, beneath upper floor junction between properties,
opening to throughway with complex moulded and stepped C17 stone
lintel, mouldings turned to continue down jambs which have been
removed. Rear: gable over opening to throughway having C20 upper
floor casement with timber lintel and timber lintel below to
throughway. Small upper floor casement to right over single-storey
lean-to. Interior contains late C17 (possibly earlier) compartment
ceiling to shop of No 60 with moulded beams. Important townscape
position on outside of curving street.
