SU 47SE CHIEVELEY CURRIDGE

4/31 Pens Cottage

House. Dated 1608 in gable end. White painted brick, and timber framed
with brick nogging. Pantiled roof with end stack to left and stack on
ridge off-centre to right. 2 storeys. 2 framed bays with angle braces. 5
casements on each floor. One storey addition to right with casement;
possibly later C17 framed bay reduced in height. C20 2 storey addition to
left with casement in each storey. Entrance to west. Traditionally
associated with Cromwell's encampment before the Battle of Newbury.
