Round cottage, circa 1820. Painted rubble and cob with wheatreed thatch conical roof.
One room plan. 2 storeys. Arched entrance to south with C20 door but original
Gothick tympanum detail over. Thatched open porch on posts. Low arched head of
window over breaks eaves line; C20 windows with glazing bars. Original arched ground
and first floor window openings to east (road) side with stone borders. Bobbin
turned, cross finial to roof. Interior not inspected. One of 5 round houses in Veryan
by Hugh Rowe, a Lostwithiel builder for the Reverend Jeremiah Trist, reputed to be one
for each of his 5 daughters. Round plan said to be to deter the activities of the
Devil, but more likely reason is economy.
