Laundry to the Convent of the
Sisters of Charity

Laundry, now store. c1891, contemporary with convent. By JD
Sedding. Squared Lias rubble with limestone dressings, render
and a slate cross gabled roof. Single-depth plan. Free Tudor
Gothic style. style. Single storey and basement; 3-window
range. A symmetrical front has a central projecting section
with an overhanging rendered gable, and gabled ends, lower to
the front. Central wide elliptical-arched doorway has quadrant
side windows and a central 2-leaf door, below a jettied gable
on sinuous timber brackets. Right-hand 5-light mullion and
transom window, left-hand C20 garage doors; oculi in the end
gables. INTERIOR: unmoulded semicircular arches on heavy
corbels. Part of a good group, and designed in a robust free
Gothic style.
