GV II

House. c1900. Squared, coursed Lias rubble with limestone
dressings, plain tile roof with decorative ridges and brick
stacks. Main block with front and rear wings forming a cross,
and right-hand extension. Jacobethan style.
Redcatch Road elevation has 2 storeys and basement, the main
block behind 3 storeys, with an extension to right of 2
storeys; varied fenestration. Plinth, weathered plat bands to
the ground and first floors, ground and second floors on main
block. Gables with corbelled kneelers to raised copings, with
ball finials. Tall lateral chimney range, with angled bricks
forming vertical projections.
Openings have irregular jambs and flat lintels, with moulded
surrounds and rubble relieving arches over. Entrance wing has
on the right, ground-floor single-light windows with
cinquefoil ogee heads containing stained glass, and casements,
and above 2-light mullioned windows. The remaining windows are
mullioned, and transomed on the ground floor with stained
glass above the transoms.
To the left a 2-storey 3-sided bay in the angle with the main
block, with 4-light windows. On the right, steps up to a large
doorway in the gable to the central hall, with an elliptical,
moulded stopped archivolt in a label with diamond stops, and a
2-leaf door. To the left a tall 9-light window of stained
glass. On the right projects a 2-storey extension; 1-window
range. Behind it is a C20 flat roof extension.
The left side elevation facing Agnes Avenue has wide 4-light
windows to the ground and first floors and 3-light windows to
the second. Large brick chimney ranges of diagonal stacks.
INTERIOR: open-well stair with 4 curtail steps, decorative
fireplaces and panelled soffits and reveals to the
ovolo-moulded windows in the main left-hand side and rear
ground-floor rooms, and ground-floor door architraves with
reeded sides and nail head angles.
