2/176 Elm Farmhouse
GV II
House. Circa 1600 or earlier. Timber-framing and painted rubble. Exposed
framing in square panels. H-plan. Cross-wings each of one bay, with painted
rubble on ground floor. Left-hand (north) wing has gable truss with two collars
and vertical struts. Right-hand cross-wing similar, but with V-struts above
the upper collar. The centre is rendered and of one storey with attic. On
the ground floor is a casement window with segmental head. Above is a dormer.
Door to left of centre within gabled porch. Chimneys on outer walls of cross-
wings and on ridge to right of door. Some of the exposed framing has been
repaired with applied timbers. Interior: not accessible at time of survey
(January 1987). The age of the building is not clear from the outside; the
low eaves height of the centre of the building makes an open hall possible.
