Fountain, 1905. Brick with stone dressings. A central carved stone bowl on scrolled pedestal
stands on a platform of four steps. It is surrounded by a brick superstructure which has arched
openings in each side, weathered diagonal buttreses and an entablature with debased triglyphs,
a cornice and a pierced parapet. The fountain was erected by the 3rd Earl of Ellesmere in
memory of the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater shortly after the removal of the former factory of the
Duke which stood on the site of the green. The fountain stands on the site of the former
factory chimney and re-uses bricks from it. A long Latin inscription on one of the steps starts
"I was a lofty column, where panting nostrils were made by the skill of the Cyclops, the glory
of the smith".
