ST 66 NE KELSTON CHURCH ROAD (west side)

3/96 Barn, to south of Manor Farmhouse

Barn. Late mediaeval, probably late C15 or early C16. Coursed rubble with
freestone quoins and dressings; Cotswold stone slate roof with coped raised
verges and finials. Central projecting gabled porch with setback buttresses;
4-centred arch in a quarter round moulded surround and under a dripmould. The
rear elevation has two buttresses with off-sets; 2 slit vents on ground floor
with later square loft doors above; central segmental carriage entry.
Interior: the south side of the porch has a blocked pointed doorway in an ovolo
moulded surround; 7 bays with king post trusses. Probably erected for the
Shaftesbury Abbey estate.
