6/285 Plum Tree Cottage and Barn Cottage

Pair of houses in a village street. C17, incorporating mediaeval masonry to rear,
with C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Limestone rubble, continuous stone
tiled roof over both houses, with central stack, some pantiles. Plum Tree Cottage
(to left) of 2 storeys and 2 windows, has two 2-light casements with timber lintels
at first floor, single light, door with triangular hood and similar 2-light
casement at ground floor; lean-to attached to left with door and single-light
casements, C20 door with triangular hood to right; small single storey extension
dated 1981 to right. Left and right returns have single light with timber lintel
in gable end. Rear of Barn Cottage has two 4-centred arched blocked openings,
taller to left, slightly projecting wall and altered masonry above indicating
possible former 3rd arch to left; to right, remains of weathered string and
projecting wall with some courses of stone tiles and quoins; C20 window at first
floor left. Interior: Plum Tree Cottage has chamfered and stopped beams. Barn
Cottage not inspected. Mediaeval masonry probably originally part of building
connected with Manor Farmhouse (q.v.) to north, possibly a gate house.
