The Nook
GV II
Cottage. Probably C17 or early C18. Rendered stone rubble and possibly
some cob. Asbestos slate roof with gabled ends abutting adjoining houses
and with red clay ridge tiles. Stack at left hand gable end with tapered
rendered shaft with slate weathering.
Plan: One-room plan with doorway at right of front and heated from stack
at left end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window front. 2 C19 2-light
casements on first floor with glazing bars. Similar but large 3-light
casement on left on ground floor and doorway to right with C19 plank door
and slated lean-to canopy on wooden cantilevers. On first floor at centre
a copper insurance plaque inscribed "West of England Exeter". Rear
elevation not inspected.
Interior: Closely-spaced chamfered cross-beams, their stops covered in
wall-paper. Fireplace at left end has chamfered timber lintel. Winder
staircase beside stack. Chamfered wooden frame to blocked opening in rear
wall. First floor end roof structure not inspected.
