C1850 pair of semi-detached villas. Two storeys and red brick with heavy stucco
Italianate dressings. No 19 of 3 bays with entrance to centre of block
and No 20 of 2 bays, passage entries to each end of block, resulting in
an unrecessed overall symmetry. Plinth; first floor sill course, frieze
with stringcourse and bed mould to shallow boxed eaves. Hipped slate roof
with brick chimney stacks and ornamental pots. Outer windows on both floors
have cornices and blocking courses (pedimented on ground floor and with
panelled friezes) supported by acanthus console brackets; tripartite glazing
to sashes with arched flanking panes. The central first floor window is
round headed, with radiating glazing bars, set in a panelled architrave
with splayed feet, sitting on the blocking course of the doorway to No 19,
panelled spandrels and large acanthus console brackets to cornice and pediment
blocking course. Main entrances have heavy panelled pilasters and deep
entablatures with modillion bracket cornices Four panel doors end fanlights
of inverted looped radial and marginal glazing pattern. Passage entries
are pilastered with keyed archivolt arches and have same pattern of fanlight.
