Built 1855-56 as the Spring Hill Congregational College to the designs of
Joseph James in an ambitious Decorated style. College plan with hall, library
and cloister, main range with an axial tower with corner turrets. Red brick
with lavish well executed stone dressings and detailing. Traceried mullioned
windows, and ballflower ornament. Crocket finials and crocket trimmed gables.
