The following building shall be added:-

WARGRAVE
SU78SE CRAZIES HILL
1110-0/1/10002 Rebecca`s Well
II
Well house. Circa 1870. The well-head basin was built for the Rev Greville Phillimore and
the well house above was designed by Gertrude Jekyll, who also painted the gable.
Roughcast brick. Semi-conical tile roof with gabled front. Semi-circular on plan. Gabled
front with semi-cicular arch, brick band and dentils above and painting in gable by Jekyll
with inscription :-'Rebeka and the Servants of Abraham at the well of Nahor. And the
servants ran to meet her and said let I pray thee drink a little water of thy pitcher'. The
painting depicts Rebecca and a servant by the well. It appears to have been restored. Inside
the well house, at the back is a carved stone inscription with a cross above in a segmental
stone panel. SOURCES: Festing,S. Gertrude Jekyll, page 62. Gray,R.,Griffiths,S. The Book
