Pair of almshouses. 1847. Centre plaque records that 'these
almshouses were built from funds left for charitable purposes
by the late Wakelin Welch, Esq. of Camden Place, Bath and
Elizabeth his wife, sister of the late Rev James Powell, vicar
of this parish.' Brick in Flemish bond with yellow stone
dressings. Decorated tile roof with crested ridge tiles.
Semi-detached with rear wings. Shallow external end stacks
with paired shafts; end stacks to wings. End gable walls with
coping and kneelers. Symmetrical 4-window range. All window
casements in stone surrounds. Side bays with 2 and 3-light
windows to 1st and ground floors respectively. Centre bays
under gable with coping and kneelers; 2 single-light windows
connected by string course that rises to contain a shield with
the date (1847) over a plaque with text as above. 4-centred
arched doorways below with planked doors. Stone quoining. Rear
wings with 2-light windows to ground-floor side elevation and
lst-floor rear. This building forms part of an attractive set
of three almost identical almshouses.
