Lych gate to Church of St Peter
GV II
Lych gate. 1868. S Teulon, who rebuilt the medieval church at
that time. Oak framed. Roof of C19 flat tiles. 2 bays, 3
principal trusses, crown-posts with upper king struts and
arched braces to collars. Tie-beams cambered and knee braced
to unjowled principal posts. Roof projects with collar purlin
supported by trefoil pierced brackets from crown posts.
Members chamfered with simple run-out stops. Intermediate
common trusses of simple collar rafter type. Barge boards with
pierced decoration of linked quatrefoils and trefoils. Lower
framing onto ground sill on stone base, principal posts with
broach stops, framed side rails and curved tension braces
supporting wooden railings with upper decoration. The lych
gate, the tombstone to Gyver Bridge (qv) and the Church of St
Peter (qv) form a group.
