3 attached houses. c1780. Brick with limestone dressings,
ashlar rear elevation, and pantile mansard roof. Double-depth
plan. Mid Georgian style.
3 storeys and basement, 2 storey side blocks; each of 4-window
range. Nos 24 & 25 are a near-symmetrical handed pair with a
linking block, No.23 to the right matches without the side
block. Pilasters to a cornice and parapet. Pedimented
doorcases on narrow brackets, to the right on Nos 23 & 25, and
left of No.24, which has a rectangular overlight with
decorative glazing bars, and 6-panel doors.
Wide relieving arches over canted 3-light ground-floor bays, 2
storeys on No.25, with strings, sill bands and moulded
copings; 9/9-pane sashes on No.25, 6/6-panes the rest.
Cambered heads with 5 stepped voussoirs to 6/6-pane sashes,
3/3-panes above the doorway of No.25.
Full-height 3-light canted bays to the rear, entrance block to
No.24 with semicircular-arched doorway to basement below a
tripartite window and paired segmental-headed first-floor
windows. Segmental-arched entrance and steps down to basement
of No.25.
INTERIOR: No.25, hall divided from the central stair well by a
moulded semicircular arch with panelled reveals; a
semicircular arch to the right-hand front room, which is one
room deep; large stair-well with a good open-well stair with
column-on-vase balusters, column newels and a wreathed rail,
with wainscotting; front bay has sash shutters, folding
2-panel shutters to the rear; 6-panel doors, wainscotting to a
dado; good modillion cornice and ceiling rose and cast-iron
grate with brass feet and replacement marble fireplace to the
front ground-floor room. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: cast-iron area
railings curve up steps to the front doors.
