Parish lock-up 2 metres south-east
of Drury's Farmhouse

GV II

Parish lock-up. Early C19. Timber-framed, clad with horizontal
oak boards, roofed partly with corrugated iron and partly with
old doors. Rectangular plan aligned NE-SW, divided into 2
cells. Door to SW complete with 2 hasped long hinges engaging
with staples on the frame. Similar door to NE with one
original similar hinge, one replaced. Small rectangular
aperture with iron grill to SE, similar blocked aperture to NW
NW pitch of roof clad with corrugated iron, SE pitch with old
doors. Oak frame, clad with rebated horizontal oak boards
secured with large handmade nails. In neglected condition, but
retaining more original structure and features than other
parish lock-ups which have been listed for many years (e.g.
Tollesbury and Great Bardfield, Essex).
