Public house. Built by order of Town Council in 1837, restored
1960. Cut flint with gault brick front under a slate roof. 2
storeys in 3 bays. Central entrance consists of a glazed door
with side lights set within a pair of fluted pilasters under a
triglyph frieze. One canted bay right and left fitted with
sashes with 2/1 glazing bars. First floor has a central
tripartite window with 6/6 and 4/4 glazing set behind a
curving balustrade. One 6/6 sash right and left with gauged
skewback arches. Hipped roof with 2 symmetrical stacks on
front slope. 2-storey wing runs down Well Street, somewhat
modified internally. INTERIOR: main disposition of a bar to
right and left of principal block remains. Details C20.
