House and shop. c1840. Gault and red brick, slate roof, red
brick stacks. L shaped plan of street range and rear addition.
3 storeys and cellar.
Front W elevation: gault brick 2 window range, parapet and
stuccoed cornice, stack on N wall. First and second floor
windows have stuccoed moulded architraves, pedimented on first
floor. Second floor windows early Cl9 sashes with glazing bars
4x4 panes, first floor remains of window with upper margin
glazing now with lower double casements and upper lights with
inserted air vents, shaped blind box boards. Elegant shallow
cast-iron balcony across window with anthemion decoration,
supported on 4 consoles and anthemion cornice. Ground floor,
central C19 shop window (now with plate glass), flanking
doorways each side with panelled doorcases. Door to S of 6
panels, lower 2 flush, upper 4 recessed. Adjacent bootscraper
by approach steps. Door to N, C20 with arched head, upper
glazing. Central cellar grating in pavement with 4x4 paned
basement window below.
Rear E elevation: 3 storeyed block in red brick, window mainly
segment headed, 2 window range, windows wider apart at top
than bottom, mainly early C19 with thin glazing bars. Second
floor sashes 4x4 panes, first floor similar 3x4 panes, ground
floor, one window 3x6 panes, plain doorway with overlight and
C20 2-leaf door, each leaf with narrow tall glazed panel.
Adjacent C20 single light casement window. To E, 2 storey wing
as lean-to to garden wall shared with No.4 (qv),
timber-framed, rendered with slate roof. N elevation: first
floor has boarded loading door and sash window with glazing
bars 3x4 panes. Ground floor has C20 central 2 panel door with
C20 casement window each side, one single and one 2-light,
also, large cellar trap door in angle with main house. E end
has 2 ground floor C20 casement windows. S end elevation:
mainly obscured but has second floor C19 sash window with
glazing bars 4x4 panes.
