Shop with upper floors empty. Early C19. Limestone ashlar;
double-pile Welsh slate parapeted roof; rendered lateral stack
to right.
Building on corner site with curved corner has fronts to
Market Place and West Market Place to left side.
To Market Place, 3 storeys to left, 4 storeys to right, each
single window wide. First floor to left has 6/6-pane sash in
plain reveal with stone cill, second floor has similar window;
to right first floor has 2/2- 6/6- 2/2-pane triple sash with
timber mullions, second floor has similar window, third floor
also has similar 1/2- 3/6- 1/2-pane sash window.
Ground floor has 2 shopfronts, mid C20 but possibly with C19
origins.
To right plate glass window with bronze arched glazing bars in
frieze has recessed glazed door with overlight to left, tiled
stall riser and pilasters with console brackets flanking
frieze and blind box over.
To left shopfront continues around corner to main entrance on
West Market Place front; to Market Place single plate glass
window with stainless steel surround has panel over with
applied sans serif lettering FISH. GAME /& POULTRY, flanked by
unmoulded pilaster strips with blind box, frieze with applied
sans serif lettering BARNETT and moulded timber cornice; bay
of shopfront on splay to corner and first bay to West Market
Place front divided by unmoulded square pilasters are open
with steel shutters to close at night; last bay to left of
West Market Place elevation has sliding steel windows; frieze
with moulded cornice over continued from Market Place
elevation has sans serif lettering CHARLES BARNETT /FISH &
/POULTRY.
Market Place elevation has band course over first floor to
left; to right giant pilasters flanking facade; continuous
moulded stone eaves cornice, coped parapet rebuilt in
reconstituted stone, cornice and parapet continuous also with
No.3 Market Place (qv).
West Market Place elevation has two 6/6-pane sashes to first
floor, one similar sash and one blind window to second floor;
ground floor has plank door with overlight in plain reveal to
left of shopfront; band course, cornice and parapet continue
from Market Place elevation.
INTERIORS not inspected; front to right of Market Place
elevation said by owner to conceal timber-frame.
