General Post Office

Former house, now post office. Late C18 or early C19. Cream
gault bricks with red dressings and red rubbed quions. Roof is
hipped and of slate with central well. 2 storeys with C20
extensions to rear. Front to High Street has projecting centre
with pediment gable and moulded painted timber dentilled
cornice. On first floor, recessed flanks, each have two 12
paned double-hung sash windows. In the projecting centre are 2
similar windows and a margin glazed French window leading to a
projecting canopy/balcony. Moulded brick storey band. Balcony
has panelled soffit and is supported on 2 enriched console
brackets. Similar window arrangement on ground floor with
central door with fluted pilasters and radial pattern
fanlight. Rendered plinth with 4 blind arches to former
cellar. Exposed N flank is of similar character but all of red
Flemish bond brickwork with grey headers and of different
build to the front. One 12 paned sash window on first floor
and two 8 paned sashes windows on ground, one with security
bars. INTERIOR altered.
