Houses. Early C18. Brick; Welsh slate roof; 3 brick stacks to
rear (to left reduced).
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellar; 5-window range: to left,
larger 10/10 sash; to right, alternating 6/6 and 8/8 sashes
with cambered heads; all in moulded cases under segmental
arches with painted stone keyblocks; 4/4 and 3/3 horizontal
casements in similar settings; carved wood coving to eaves.
Matching entrances, flanking central 8/8 sash: 6 fielded panel
doors and overlights (to right with Gothic glazing, to left,
with glazing-bars) in shouldered moulded wood architraves,
under moulded cambered hoods; to left and right, 8/8 sash.
To left, narrow early C19 wing with hipped slate roof; single
tier of two 6/6 and one 3/3 sashes under segmental arches with
stucco keyblocks; brick modillion eaves.
To right (No.30A), 2-storey entrance bay with Welsh slate
roof, and similar 6/6 sash under segmental arch; moulded,
8-fielded panel door and overlight with glazing-bars, in
moulded case with cambered head, under moulded flat hood with
boarded cambered soffit.
Wing to rear: of coursed rubble; Welsh slate roof; brick
blocked opening with chamfered reveals and lintel; two early
C19, 8/8 sashes, over mullion light and coloured leaded light,
in moulded reveals.
INTERIOR: No.29: late C18 staircase with moulded rail and
turned balusters. 2nd floor: 2 and 4-panel doors; C18
fireplace. 1st floor: C18 fireplace; 4-panel doors and
architraves; C19 panelled door.
Hall: C19 half-glazed panelled door with leaded lights and
overlight; coved ceiling; 6-panel doors. Ground floor (house):
stone fireplace; C19 overmantel; 4-panel door; C18 fireplace;
coving.
Wing to rear (Hall of Vicars Choral): embodies late C14 hall
of the original College of The Vicar's Choral, with good
original roof with cusped wind braces; late C18 open-well
staircase with panelled dado, to 2nd floor.
Attic: moulded collar trusses with cusped braces; pierced,
cusped windbraces with foliate finials. 2nd floor: late C18
corner fireplace with mirror overmantel and wall cupboard; C18
fireplace; wall cupboard and chest.
1st floor: C18 fireplace; panelled recesses; coved ceiling;
4-panel doors and architraves.
Ground floor: C19 fireplace; panelled alcoves; 4-panel doors
and architrave; coved ceiling. No.30: early C18 dogleg
staircase to 2nd floor. 2nd floor: 4-panel door; C19
fireplace; C18 bolection moulded fireplace; wall cupboard; two
C18 reused panel doors, 1 with cockspur hinges; 2 plank doors.
1st floor: 4-panel doors; C18 fireplaces; wall cupboards;
moulded ceiling beam. Ground floor: panelled dado; 6-panel
doors; C18 fireplace. Cellar: brick vaulted.
Wing to rear (timber-framed): early C18 dogleg staircase with
moulded string and rail, and barley sugar twist balusters. 1st
floor: C18 panelled room with C18 fireplace; 4-panel door; C17
moulded ceiling frame; two 3 and 4-panel doors.
Hall: C17 panelling. Ground floor: C18 panelling; plaster
ceiling with rose and acorn motif; wood moulded cornice;
panelled doors. No.30A: ground floor: plank doors; C19 winder
stair; 4-panel door; C19 fireplace; wall cupboard. No access
to upper floor.
