Terrace of dwellings. c1840-1855, some mid C20 alterations to
attics. Stucco over brick, slate roofs. Terrace on hillside. 4
storeys plus attic over basement; Nos 9-13 have deep
bow-fronts, otherwise 3-window frontage to each shallow curved
full-height bay; sash windows with some glazing bars missing,
some attic windows inserted between pilasters in parapet,
others with baluster parapets, moulded cornice, moulded
surrounds to square-headed window openings, individual
cast-iron balustrade to first floor of each dwelling,
rusticated ground floors, pilaster doorcases, variety of doors
(mostly half-glazed with leaded lights), approached by short
flight of steps, some with tessellated pavements. Cast-iron
railings and bottle balustrading returned from entrances along
street frontage. In 1843 Nos 9-13 are shown as occupied in the
earliest street directory for Hove, another 5 properties are
mentioned in 1850.
