5/221 Lower Gate House

House. Early C19. Red brick, slate roofs, brick ridge stacks. 2-storey, 5-window
range. 6-panel door to right of centre with overlight and gauged brick lintel,
back door to far left with plank door and gabled hood on brackets, a shallow
segmental bow window to right of back door. 16-pane sash windows either side of
front door with gauged brick lintels and three similar windows to first floor
and brick nogged eaves. Later range to left has round-headed arch at basement
level to right with steps down front tow path to passage below house to lane at
lower level to rear, a stable door with segmental head to left. C19 casement to
far left and to first floor brick eaves cornice. Said to have been a shop and
blacksmiths. Interior not inspected.
