Town house, now house and shop. Late C15; front block built in early C19.
Timber-framed to rear. Front of early C19 limestone ashlar; gabled Welsh slate
roof, with concrete tiles to rear; brick end stacks. Right-angle double-depth
plan. 3-storey, 2-window range. Late C19 shop front of 2 square bays with
glazing bars flanking C20 door; late C19 three-panelled door set in fluted
architrave to through-passage on left. Keyed stone lintels over C20 six-pane
first-floor sashes, and stone lintels over C19 horned 6-pane second-floor
sashes. Late C15 two-storey wing to rear; left side wall has rendered first
floor jettied over timber-framed ground-floor; 3- and 4-light moulded
wood-mullioned windows, and moulded fascia board to jetty. C20 one-storey rear
extension. Interior of late C15 house: part of stone newel stair in cellar;
quartered and chamfered beams with heavy square joists; late C16 dado panelling
to left side wall of ground floor. In 1515 the house was sold to John Barnes,
Mercer. Bought by Brothertons, ironmongers, in early C18.
