GV II
House. c1840.
MATERIALS: Ham Hill stone ashlar with hipped slate roof and
stone stacks.
PLAN: T-shaped plan with substantial wing stepped forward to
the left, and a large C20 extension to the rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; symmetrical 4-window range to the main
block. The eaves are wide, on brackets; the quoins facing the
street are rusticated, with a platband at cill level. 6/6-pane
sashes; the two to the centre are set in a stepped-forward
gabled bay, the eaves of which form an open pediment. The
4-panel door to the right has two square panels over it under
a narrow hood on consoles.
The similar left wing of symmetrical 2-window range has flat
gauged arches over two 8/8-pane sashes to the ground floor,
which flank a doorcase with incised pilasters and a moulded
cornice to a former door, now with a C20 horned 6/6-pane sash
inserted. First-floor windows, at eaves level, are C20.
The rear of the main building has 4 French windows with margin
panes, onto the garden, and 6/6-pane sashes above; incised
key-pattern to the pilasters. There is an extensive C20 wing
to the rear-left.
INTERIOR not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: a high ashlar wall encloses a forecourt
to the right, a stone plinth curves forward and attaches to
the north-west corner of the left wing; this supports
spearhead railings and square, cast-iron, trellissed gate
piers with ball finials.
