Two cottages, now house and shop. Late C17/early C18. Painted,
coursed, limestone rubble to the front, rubblestone to the
rear; squared stone to the right of front suggesting later C18
rebuild or extension; pantile roof, hipped to the north, on
West Street, and tapering to a gable with a truncated stack to
the south, and a brick stack to the centre of the ridge. 2
single-unit plans; each 2 storeys, one-window range: that to
the right is part of a fish and chip shop, and totally
altered. Both have C20 windows and doors. INTERIOR: in the
course of reconstruction; ceiling heights were just over 2
metres, to the left is a large open fireplace with a
chamfered, slightly arched lintel; above it, to the left, is a
small opening to a former fireplace in an upper chamber. One
remaining roof truss has trenched purlins, a notch-in-apex,
and a pegged collar. Thatch under the pantiles, and straw
holding plaster to the rafters, still remains.
