Pair of attached houses. c1850. Limestone ashlar, party wall
stacks, roof not visible. Double-depth plan. Neoclassical
style.
Each of 2 storeys, basement and attic; 3-window range. A
symmetrical front with clasping and paired central giant
pilasters to an entablature and cornice, and attic storey with
pilasters to a moulded, coped parapet. Outer windows set back
with single-storey porches in front, No.48 extended, No.50
with pilasters to an open corbelled semicircular arch, and
adjoining semicircular-arched window, to a side door with 2
panels. Ground-floor windows have pilasters jambs to moulded
heads, and aprons, first-floor has eared architraves and 2
slate balconies with cast-iron brackets and railings, and
eared attic windows; 2/2-pane sashes with margin panes. End
blocks have semicircular-arched first-floor windows with
architraves and double margin panes.
INTERIOR: central stair hall with a side dogleg with turned
balusters, 6-panel doors, panelled shutters, modillion
cornices, and fireplaces with fluted Corinthian columns.
