Beaufort House and attached garden
wall

GV II

House. Early C18, with late C19 front. Render over Pennant
rubble and limestone ashlar dressings, pantile hipped roof and
rendered stacks. Double-depth, central hall plan.
2 storeys and attic; 5-window range, 2-window range in left
side block. Symmetrical front with rusticated quoins, sill
bands, modillion cornice and parapet with open lattice
sections. Central porch with Ionic 3/4 columns, entablature
and dentil cornice, with an open lattice parapet above.
Elaborate ground- and first-floor windows with aprons, moulded
cills on flat brackets, shouldered architraves with deep
moulded keys and cornices on ground floor, plate-glass sashes;
4/4 plain sashes in the left-hand block; 3 attic dormers.
INTERIOR: large hall with an open-well stair with quarter
landings at the back of the house, with fluted newel posts
rising between floors and pyramid pendants below, barley sugar
balusters; an elaborate panelled plaster ceiling in the front
right room with deeply undercut fruit and flowers.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached garden wall, ramped at either
end, with central gate piers with pineapples.
