House. Mid C18/early C19. Stucco, brick end and rear ridge
stacks, pantile roof hip and gable roofs, slate on old coach
house. L-shaped with a right-hand wing to the back, which has
a cross wing in the angle with the principal house; attached
coach house to the left. Late Georgian style. 2 storeys;
4-window range. Early C19 front block with C18 block behind.
An asymmetrical front has a rusticated ground floor, sill
band, cornice and coped parapet. 6-panel door with fanlight in
second bay from left, and plate-glass sashes; late C19 porch
with fluted piers, stained-glass windows and barge-boards.
Right-hand elevation in 3 sections, the first blank, the
middle one forming a 3-window range of 6/6-pane sashes under a
cornice, and the rear section slightly projecting with
2-window range of smaller 6/6-pane sashes with thick bars.
Scattered fenestration in the left side elevation, including a
semicircular-arched 6/4-pane stair sash with interlacing bars
to the front block, and entrances to flats. INTERIOR: much
altered in conversion. HISTORICAL NOTE: The rear block was the
George Inn in the C18, facing Church School Road, on the
pilgrim route to St Anne's Convent.
