Pair of attached houses. c1821. Possibly by James Foster.
Extended c1840. Stucco with limestone dressings, brick party
wall stacks and slate hipped mansard roof. Double-depth plan.
Late Georgian style.
A symmetrical front with clasping pilasters to a parapet,
ramped up over the corners, with a round-topped strip with 3
wide reeds to the party wall. Entrances in the returns:
No.32 has a single-storey porch with attached columns and
2-leaf half-glazed door; No.37 has a mid C19 ashlar 2-storey
extension, with a flush, open porch, pilasters, panelled on
the right, to a ground-floor entablature and cornice and
parapet, and blind first-floor window. The doorway has an
architrave and 2-leaf 6-panel door with faceted panels.
Tripartite ground- and first-floor windows, with wrought-iron
balconies to the ground floor, wider tented balconies to the
first floor, and basket balconies to the second, all with
pointed-arched railings and quatrefoils; No.37 has 6/6-pane
sashes, No.35 has plate-glass sashes, both with 8/8-pane
second-floor sashes.
The porch to No.37 extends round the right return, a 5-window
range, the middle 3 of which form a half bow, with a
right-hand tripartite window, all with ground-floor panelled
jambs to an entablature, first-floor architraves, and parapet;
decorative cast-iron ornate railings to the windows and side
of the porch.
INTERIOR not inspected. A matching design to Nos 3-15 Richmond
Hill (qv), also by Foster in 1821.
