House, now residential home. 1899, by H T Hare. English bond
brick with sandstone dressings; gabled plain tile roof with
brick parapets and copings: tall brick stacks. Double-depth
plan. Arts and crafts style. 2 storeys and attic; garden front
of 5 bays, with 3 gabled bays to centre. Wood mullioned and
transomed windows of up to 4 lights; central 2-storey bay
window: bay to left of centre has 2 semi-circular arches with
Doric column to recessed grand-floor entrance. Similar
fenestration to other elevations. Left gable has 2-storey bay
window joining rear left wing which has 3-light window in
heavy stone surround to canted angle and 2-light
stone-mullioned window adjoining arched door way with stone
architrave set under flat hood. Projecting gabled wings flank
central recessed bay of rear wing which has balustraded
parapet over continuous stone-mullioned and transomed
first-floor windows set above lean-to with 2-light
stone-mullioned windows.
INTERIOR: complete and lavishly executed including panelled
ground-floor rooms, Morris and Co. wall decoration, lincrusta
friezes and ceilings, classical and Arts and Crafts fireplaces
with do Morgan tilework and panelled stairhall with dog-leg
staircase.
