Egerton Dock
GV II
Dock. Opened 1847. By J.M.Rendel, engineer. Coursed and
squared sandstone with some cast-iron dock furniture. Square
in plan with stone walls and wharf surfaces. Cast-iron
bollards. The dock is the only substantially surviving part of
Rendel's original plan for Birkenhead Docks, and was altered
in the 1880's when the original lock system intended to
connect the dock to the proposed low water basin was removed.
The dock is now partially infilled, but believed to be intact.
