House in row. Early C19 front to C17 framed fabric. Flemish
bond brickwork, felted roof. Side-entry right-angle plan.
3 storeys, wide-spaced 2-windowed. Large 16-pane sashes to
fine brick voussoirs with fluted keystone with cornice, stone
cills. Ground floor has late C19 shop front with pilasters, in
2 large panes, with slender unmoulded mullions to flat
basket-handle heads. Recessed to the left is a glazed door
under a transom-light with rounded corners. Then left, to
throughway, a wide framed door, with 4 sunk panels above a
fifth with cross-bracing, under a shallow 4-pane
transom-light. A shallow fascia beneath moulded cornice is
surmounted by a decorative cast-iron cresting, all the full
width of the front. The stone modillion cornice is immediately
beneath a felt drip to the roof.
The right-hand flank of the building is rendered and decorated
as part of the Town Hall design (qv). In the throughway there
is timber-framing to the right, and, approx 2m from the front,
a broad chamfered and stopped beam on a bracket. INTERIOR not
inspected.
