House in row, with shop. C18 front on earlier structure.
Flemish bond brickwork, tile roof, brick stack. The building
has very low ceiling heights, and the upper floor has been
modified; the front slope of the roof is at a very low pitch,
but the rear is steeply pitched.
3 storeys and basement, 2-windowed. At the eaves are 2-light
C18 or early C19 casements with a horizontal bar, then 4-pane
sashes, in exposed moulded boxes - probably replacing former
12-pane sashes - under brick voussoirs, at first floor. These
all without cills. The ground floor has a symmetrical early
C19 shop front with 25-pane bows on C20 brick stall-risers,
and a central 4-panel door under 8-pane transom-light, all in
pilasters, and with small modillion-like brackets to the
cornice. Brick stack to the right, in front of ridge. In the
adjoining Hughes Alley, to the left, is a structural post
approx 1.5m from the street front. The rear roof slope has a
raking dormer.
INTERIOR not inspected, but the very low floor-to-ceiling
heights suggest a fabric of C17 or earlier.
