Mansion. Originally late C16; rebuilt 1770's for Eleazar Davy, possibly by
James Wyatt; the roof structure is dated 1777. Red brick, formerly
colourwashed, moulded stucco string courses at first floor and eaves levels,
flat parapet, slated roof. 2 storeys. Entrance front of 7 bays, 2:3:2, the
wings projecting by one bay, blank centre panel; sash windows with glazing
bars in flush frames, flat brick arches; the windows to the return walls of
the wings and to the ground floor of the left hand wing are dummies. Central
doorway with mid-late C19 enclosed brick porch, 6-panel door, raised and
fielded panels, portico on cast iron columns (dismantled at time of survey).
Pediment over centre recess with roundel in tympanum. Garden front (facing
south) of 7 hays, 2:3:2, the centre bays flanked by panelled stucco pilasters
and with a pediment over with roundel in the tympanum. Inset sash windows with
glazing bars, flat brick arches, blind boxes to ground floor; central doorway
with glazed double doors, pilasters, hood on consoles and large rectangular
fanlight (all late C19). Service wing to north, 3 storeys, 3 bays. Interior
with good late C18 staircase, some Adam style fireplaces and moulded plaster
friezes to the main rooms.
